Indian cuisine is known for its rice, gravy dishes and the versatile blend of many spices. Another thing our cuisine is also famous for are the chaats or munchies. Unlike pastries and other snacks which are famous in other parts of the world, chaats are a colorful and tasty mix of dry and wet ingredients that are not just yummy, but make you feel all satiated for hours. Be it Papdi Chaat or Pani Puri or Bhelpuri, chaats win our hearts by their tasty tickles!
Bhelpuri is one of the most loved chaat served all over India. Although the ingredients and preparation may vary a bit, Bhelpuri has this authentic taste and tang that is very addictive. Bhelpuri is also my personal favorite, and rather than buying it off the street carts (which is an experience in itself), I thought of preparing it at home for the family, which also makes it more hygienic.
Bhelpuri comprises puffed rice as the base, mixed with raw tomato, boiled potato, coriander and a mix of dry spics such as mango powder and chilli. Tamarind adds that mild sweetish tang. Whenever one feels like eating something light for supper, you could easily prepare Bhelpuri within no time and serve it with evening tea. My in-laws love eating Bhelpuri as well, so whenever I serve them Bhelpuri, I see them smiling ear to ear!
There are several other chaat recipes that you can try which are equally delicious! These include the Delhi Style Fruit Chaat, Aam Aur Chana Chaat (Mango and Yellow Gram), and Makhana Namkeen. Dry Indian snacks such as Chawal Ke Pakode and Masala Mathri, are just as addictive. But trust me, nothing can overtake that tempting crunch and feel of Bhelpuri! Want to check it out by yourself?
