    About This Recipe

Extra thick, creamy, comforting, and loaded with fall flavors, that’s Apple Smoothie for you. Made using juicy apples, frozen bananas, oats, and yogurt, this refreshing drink is very nutritious and low calorie.

Cinnamon Spiced Apple Smoothie, is my go-to breakfast during autumn when the best of apples are in season. In fact, I make it throughout the year as these days, good apples are available year-round.

It is packed with almost everything I need – tasty, nutritious, quick, and filling. The days when I have absolutely no time to cook breakfast, I add in all the ingredients in the blender and blend till I get a creamy smoothie.

Apple Banana Smoothie is filling and wholesome too, as I like to add the goodness of oats in it which will keep you filled for longer. Not only for breakfast, but I also make it for myself whenever hunger strikes.

    This Apple Banana Smoothie is,

    • Healthy
    • Creamy
    • Filling
    • Filled with the goodness of Oats
    • Yummy
    • A great weekday breakfast

    Ingredients

    Apple Smoothie Ingredients.

Mostly all the ingredients will be already available in your pantry – apple, banana, instant oats, yogurt, milk, honey, and cinnamon powder.

Fruits – Apples are the star ingredient of this smoothie. I like to use sweet and juicy apples like Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, or Indian apples. Avoid using apples that are tart and sour like Granny Smith.

Along with Apple, I also add some Banana for that creamy texture and it also adds to the sweetness of the same. Freezing the banana for a few hours makes a super creamy smoothie.

I sometimes also like to add other fruits such as Mangoes, Berries, Papaya, etc. It tastes delicious but it can change the texture and taste.

Oats – As Oats are rich in protein, it makes the smoothie even more nutritious. Add in quick or rolled oats in this apple smoothie, both work well. Avoid using instant oats as they taste very cardboardy and also steel cut oats as they are difficult to blend.

Dairy – I also add yogurt and milk to make it rich and creamy. If you like your smoothies to be thick, you can skip the milk and make it just with yogurt.

For a dairy-free smoothie, you can substitute milk and yogurt with plant-based milk and yogurt options.

Cinnamon Powder – Cinnamon Powder is optional, but it adds a beautiful taste.

You can also add in cardamom powder instead of cinnamon powder, for a different flavor.

Honey – For little extra sweetness honey. You can substitute Honey with Dates, Sugar, or Maple Syrup. I sometimes even avoid adding anything, as I like the subtle sweetness from bananas only.

You can even add a little vanilla extract if you like that little hint of vanilla in your smoothies.

    How to make Apple Smoothie?

Wash the apples and cut them into 4 pieces. Remove the seeds and peel the skin. Chop the peeled apples into small cubes. Freeze the cubes for 5-6 hours.

Peel the banana and cut into slices. Freeze the slices for 5-6 hours.

Add all the ingredients in a blender.

All the ingredients added in a blender.

    Blend until smooth.

    Bled until smooth.

Transfer the smoothie to serving glasses and garnish with ground cinnamon or edible flowers. Serve immediately otherwise the smoothie will turn brown due to oxidation of apples.

    Ready apple smoothie.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to peel the Apples to make smoothie?

It depends on your preference. If you want a creamy and smoothie texture, peel the apples.

But if you don’t mind the coarse texture in your smoothies, keep the peel of the apple.
If you want to retain all the necessary nutrients, I would recommend not to peel the apples.
If you are using a heavy-duty blender, it should take care of the peels easily. But if your blander is not heavy duty, you can consider peeling them.

Can we use Frozen Apple Sauce to make smoothie?

Yes if you have Apple Sauce, you can use that instead of Apples to make the smoothie. You can freeze the sauce in ice cube trays and use the cubes directly to make a creamy smoothie.

Can we use Frozen Apples to make this smoothie?

Yes, using frozen apples gives it a nice and creamy texture. It is also a great way of preserving apples, if you cant find the fresh ones in your locality.

    Pro Tips by Neha

Make a vegan version by replacing milk and yogurt with vegan milk and yogurt.

Use sweet apples and avoid using apples that are tart and sour.

You can choose to keep the peel of the apples while making this smoothie. It will be more nutritious but not as smooth.

You can freeze the serving glasses for an hour to keep the smoothie chilled after serving.

    Variations

Other Ingredients – Here is a list of ingredients that you can add in my apple cinnamon smoothie recipe to give it a taste change.

    • Peanut Butter, protein powder, caramel syrup, etc can be added to it.
    • Fruits like Strawberry, Pineapple, Kiwi, Mango, Watermelon, Cherry, Cranberry, raspberry, etc
    • Greens like Kale, Spinach, etc.
    • You can also add Orange Juice, coconut water.
    • Veggies like Carrot, Avocado, Cucumber also pair well in this recipe.

Vegan – If you are looking for a vegan option, you can substitute milk and yogurt with almond milk. You can even use coconut milk or coconut yogurt to make this smoothie. Also add sugar instead of honey.

Without Banana – To make it without Bananas, add some 1 or 2 pitted dates instead.

Smoothie Bowl – Just make the smoothie a little thick, add it in the bowl and top with your favorite toppings such as chopped fruits, granola, coconut flakes, seeds, nuts, nut butter, dry fruits, etc.

You can also add in some Peanut Butter to give your smoothies a different flavor and make it sweeter. I sometimes even like to add apple spice mix instead of cinnamon to give it that Apple Pie flavor. It tastes amazing!

Also, protein powder can be added in Apple Smoothie, if you are making it for your pre-workout meals.

    Topping Ideas

You can top this Apple Banana Smoothie with some of your favorite toppings and give it extra texture. Here are some of my favorite options,

    • Simple Granola or Apple Cinnamon Granola
    • Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
    • Chopped Apples
    • Ground Cinnamon or Apple Spice Mix
    • Chopped Nuts – Almonds or Walnuts
    • Seeds – Sunflower Seeds, Flax Seeds, Chia Seeds or Pumpkin Seeds

    Storage Suggestions

Make Apple Banana Smoothie fresh! But if you have leftovers, drink it in a day or two.

Instead, you can freeze this Apple Smoothie.

All you have to do is blend the smoothie and then pour the smoothie into freezer-safe Mason jars, and freeze for up to a month.

Whenever you are planning to drink Cinnamon Spiced Apple Smoothie again, place a smoothie jar in the fridge and defrost overnight.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve it on the side with your everyday breakfast or as a snack whenever the hunger strikes. You can also top it with your favorite toppings and serve it as a Smoothie Bowl too.

I sometimes even like to relish this delicious smoothie as a smoothie bowl for my light lunch or dinner too.

      Hello Neha,

Have a question regarding the use of yogurt. Outside India we get Greek yogurt or the other yogurt too is good for these smoothies but what do you suggest to be used here in India as we set curd at home. Does that taste equally good? I am a little skeptical to try that.

You can use curd in this recipe. Curd and yogurt are one and the same thing 🙂
