Maiyas restaurants have been known for their standards and hygiene since they opened their first restaurant decades back in Bangalore. Since then Maiyas group has launched range of products in beverages, frozen, instant mixes, masala’s, pickles, savouries and sweets. Nowadays it is common to find Maiyas food being used, including in Indian in-flight meals, airport counters, malls, hotels and restaurants. Dr. Sadanand Maiya has combined his engineering and cooking skills to optimally create a right balance of taste and nutrition and taking forward the legacy set up by his father. His commitment is visible in making traditional and nutritional food available to all in this fast paced world. Last week I got to interact with him and talk at length about the newest introduction of Kannada Meals or Kannada Thali at Maiyas. He talked about Burning Fat Diet using Millet benefits which have been aptly used in the meals or Thali. He also talked about maintaining high standards in restaurant cooking by using modern technology and simple principles.
Authentic South Indian food has always won the hearts of foodies all over the world and I’ve been a big fan of South Indian Thali’s. When prepared right, it is tasty, healthy and satisfying. The meals made with millets have low carbohydrates content making it good even for diabetics, it is rich in fiber thats helps remove bad cholesterol and reduce blood pressure. Millets being gluten free also help with digestion problems while being rich in vitamins and calcium. Even with these 40 odd recipes being part of the Kannada Thali, it is less than 500 calories and less than 15 grams of fat. It also provides for one third of day’s calcium, proteins and vitamin needs.
This millets benefits thali included dishes such as foxtail millet upma, millet khichdi and mixed millet roti’s. It also has healthy salad, grilled pineapple skewers, bean sprouts kadhi, chana chaat, raita, juice (fresh with no added sugar) and buttermilk. The meal is Diabetic and heart friendly. While talking to Mr. Maiya he also talked about the high standards that he maintains in the restaurants by keeping low temperatures in the kitchen so the chef’s do not sweat and making the kitchens bacteria free.
