A creamier yet healthier alternative to the usual white sauce, this Cauliflower Cheese Sauce lets you devour your comfort food like pizza, steaks, macaroni and more with a comparatively lesser guilt! Plus it’s super quick and easy to make too. Here is how to make Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce Recipe at home.

cauliflower cheese sauce in a pan.

My kiddo loves Mac and Cheese. And if you ask me, even I and my husband like eating it sometimes for dinner.

But, as it is loaded with lots of processed flour and cheese, I am always on a lookout to fuse macaroni with some healthy ingredients, and instead make Masala Macaroni or Macaroni, Spinach and Cheese Muffins.

The reason behind doing so is that my kiddo gets to eat something delicious, yet I can rest assured that he eats his share of fresh veggies in the pretext.

And till date, it has always served the purpose.

I love eating vegetables and cauliflower being full of vitamins and minerals, always is on my mind.

Whenever we have a stock of fresh cauliflower florets at home, I feel elated to try out recipes such as Beer Battered Cauliflower Florets, Gobi ka Paratha, Honey Roasted Cauliflower, Healthy Asian Cauliflower Rice.

My recent tryst with sauces, made me realize that Cauliflower Cheese Sauce can be made as well and can be used as an accompaniment for various dishes like Mac and Cheese, Steaks, Roasted Vegetables, and more.

And guess what? It is so easy to make this gluten-free cheese sauce that I see myself making it on repeats.

Another good thing about this recipe is that it is very cheap to make it as well.

Sauce made with one cauliflower head will last you for 2-3 meals.

You can also use frozen cauliflower if the cauliflowers are not in season or are running a bit high that time around.

This Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce is

    • Creamy
    • Cheesy
    • Savory

    Pro Tips by Neha

Cut the cauliflower florets in the approximately the same size. It will make sure they cook uniformly.

Cook the cauliflower florets until the stem turns translucent.

Make sure to blend the sauce until is very creamy.

You can cook the cauliflower in broth instead of water for added flavor.

You can add flavorings of your choice like herbs, chilli flakes, etc to the sauce to make it more flavourful.

A drizzle of good quality olive oil takes the taste of this sauce to the next level.

Use any cheese that melts well to make this sauce.

Does this sauce taste like Alfredo?

To be true, this sauce doesn’t taste like Alfredo but I can assure you it’s delicious and worth giving a try.

It has a taste of cauliflower but it’s creamy, full of flavors and I think a much better option than Alfredo.

    Can you freeze this sauce?

This is a very freezer-friendly recipe. You can freeze the sauce for up to 1 month.

I always like to make a big batch and then freeze the sauce in small containers good for one-time use.

I just take out one of the containers, thaw it, and use it in my recipe.

    How to use this sauce?

    • For Mac and Cheese
    • As Pizza Topping
    • Sauce for baked or roasted vegetables.
    • Dip with nachos and chips.
    • Use as a salad dressing.
    • Sauce for pasta.
    • Topping for steamed vegetables like broccoli, beetroot, etc.
    • Sauce for rice casserole.

    How to make it vegan?

To make vegan cauliflower sauce, use only olive oil and skip the butter. Replace regular milk with almond milk and skip the cheese.

How to make it with Cheese?

In order to make this simple, healthy, and yummy sauce, start by heating olive oil and butter in a saucepan.

Then add garlic, onions, and let them cook well. Gradually, add the fork-tender cauliflower and saute the mix.

Now add vegetable broth to this mix, add salt and pepper and cook on medium heat and then turn it off after giving a nice, gentle mix.

Let things cool down and then transfer the cauliflower mix in a blender and make a smooth sauce.

Finally transfer the fresh, smooth mix to the saucepan again, add milk, cheddar cheese, gouda cheese, and cook till it turns cheesy.

And thus in minutes, delectable, cheesy, and salubrious Cauliflower Cheese Sauce gets made.

Prepare it soon in your kitchen and let me know how it turns out.
