Minty, chocolaty and chilled, this McDonald’s Copycat Chocolate Shamrock Shake is my “bae” beverage for this Saint Patrick’s Day and upcoming summer. I tried it once during my stay in the US and since then I have loved this shake like anything! Here is how to make McDonald’s Chocolate Shamrock Shake Recipe.
Vanilla soft serve, Chocolate Shake – aren’t they the favorites at McDonald’s? At least that’s the case for my kiddo. He loves fast food like anything.
And McDonald’s is his hangout with BFFs spot! Burgers, Wraps, French Fries – oh, he loves them all. That’s brand eating done right, no?
Not that he doesn’t like Vanilla Ice Cream but the relatively new Chocolate Shamrock Shake is making him swoon now.
The classic Shamrock Shake with an addition of chocolaty layer at the bottom only made it better.
So, the other day I got all prepped with chocolate syrup, whipped cream and made it at home.
That too in limited time. Pat my back someone, c’mon?
You get to enjoy two distinct shakes and flavors when you sip this Original Chocolate Shamrock Shake.
There’s creamy, thick chocolate shake on the bottom. The top layer is of the mint shake. And then there is whipped topping.
This chocolate mint flavor shake can be served as a beverage or even as a dessert and it’s one of those perfect instagram worthy recipes.
Chocolate Shamrock Shake is different from Oreo Milkshake because it doesn’t blend mint and chocolate.
Hence, you get served a beautiful beverage that has a distinct chocolaty layer. Not to mention that soothing, green layer of mint shake on top.
How to make it
This McDonalds Shamrock Shake is a breath to make. Truly! First, quickly make the chocolate base shake.
Then make the mint shake. I have used an edible green colour to give it that nice feel and texture.
Follow my quick guide recipe to assemble both the shakes in one glass. Finally, generously top the shakes layers with fresh whipped cream.
Chocolate and mint go very well together. The minute you sip this shake, you would know better.
Serve it chilled for you kiddo’s birthday parties, summer jam sessions or treat yourself after quick siestas!
My recipe will help you make Mc Donald’s Copycat Chocolate Shamrock Shake like never before! Note it down:
Pro Tips
Use good quality vanilla ice cream to make this shake. It’s all about 2 ingredients so use the best.
You can increase the quantity of chocolate syrup in the bottom layer if you like it more chocolaty and sweet.
Freezing the glasses after filling the chocolate layer will make the two layers stand out nicely. I missed doing that and my shakes were little mixed up.
You can also keep a red cherry on top of the cream like how it’s served at McDonald’s. I did’t had one so skipped it.
Use mint extract and not peppermint. They are two quite different flavors. And be very careful while adding the extract. More than just a few drops can make the shake bitter.
You can sprinkle some choco chips or top it with vanilla or chocolate ice cream instead of whipped cream.
Tools to make it
You will need a blender to blend the shake.
You will also need Maraschino cherries and green sprinkles to decorate your shake.
A good chocolate syrup is a must.
This Mint Extract is the best. I make sure to get my supply whenever my sister’s visits me from the US.
