    What is Dalgona Coffee?

Super frothy, smooth, and velvety, Dalgona Coffee or Whipped Coffee is making headlines all over social media platforms in 2020. This trendy coffee is also called as fluffy coffee, frothy coffee, or TikTok coffee.

I came across Dalgona Coffee when each and everyone on my Insta and TikTok was trying out this coffee at home, which looked very similar to my regular whipped coffee that I make at home. But the appearance was a bit different, which made me try it.

And let me tell you I am hooked, this Dalgona Coffee is strong and super frothy, just the way I like it and it tastes even better when you sip it with a lot of ice on a hot summery day.

If you have had Starbucks Frappucino, you know what I am speaking. Milky Iced Coffee which is strong, fluffy and very refreshing.

To be frank, this Dalgona coffee recipe is nothing new. Also known as Beaten Coffee (India), Frappe Coffee (Greek), and Batido (South America), this Tiktok Coffee gets its name from the old fashioned Korean street snack honeycomb toffee. The taste of this coffee is very close to this snack and hence it got its name.

It is basically the old style coffee served upside down. Don’t you agree?

    Dalgona Coffee is,

    • Frothy
    • Lip-smacking
    • Appealing
    • Strong
    • Perfect for monsoon or winter evenings

    Ingredients

    Dalgona Coffee Ingredients.

Just 3 simple ingredients and your delectable frothy coffee is on the table to enjoy. This recipe is made using just 3 ingredients – Instant Coffee Powder, Sugar, and Milk.

Coffee – It is very important to use Instant Coffee Powder to make this recipe. Use Nescafe or Bru. Ground Coffee will not work in this recipe.

Milk – I have used regular milk to make this recipe, however, you can use any milk of your choice. You can even use chocolate-flavored milk in this recipe.

If you don’t like your coffee too milky, you can add some water in the milk. Almond, Soy, Cashew, or Oats Milk can be used instead of Cow Milk if you are looking for a vegan option.

Use the milk hot or cold, it’s up to you.

Sweetener – I have used organic sugar but you can use regular white granulated sugar as well. Other options are brown sugar, raw sugar, coconut sugar.

You can whisk the coffee without sugar with just water but the peaks will not be that stiff and the coffee will become flat very soon.

For a KETO version, you can use substitutes like Natvia, Swerve or Monkfruit etc. All you have to keep in mind is that the sweetener should be granular.

Water – Little water is required to whip the coffee. I saw a lot of posts which said boiling water is required to beat the coffee but I always use room temperature water and it always work fine for me.

    How to make Dalgona Coffee?

Add instant coffee powder and sugar in a bowl.

Coffee and sugar added in a bowl.

    Add 2 tablespoon water.

    Water added in the bowl.

Beat the coffee and sugar vigorously until it is light and fluffy.

Coffee whipped until stiff peaks are formed.

    Fill a glass with ice.

    Glass filled with ice.

    Pour milk on top.

    Milk poured in the glass.

Top the glass with whipped coffee. Mix well and serve chilled.

Ready dalgona coffee or whipped coffee.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why my Dalgona Coffee is not frothy?

Using the wrong measurements of ingredients will not give you frothy coffee. So make sure that you use the correct amount of sugar, coffee, and water.

Also, whisk the mixture for good 5 to 8 minutes, or even more. Less whisking may give you non-frothy coffee.

What is the best way to whip the coffee?

You can use a hand mixer, whisk, fork, spoon, or milk frother to whip the coffee. However, whisking it using hand will take a lot of time and effort. If whipping by hand, try to use a fork instead of a spoon or wire whisk and whip in a zigzag pattern instead of circular.
My fav equipment to whip the coffee is a hand mixer. It hardly takes 3-4 minutes to whip a big batch using it. The small jar of a mixer grinder also works great to whip this coffee.
Do not use the immersion mixer as it may darken the coffee due to its heat and it will also turn bitter.

What else can you use Whipped Coffee mixture for ?

You can use the whipped coffee mixture to,
To top your brownies or cheesecake.
Coat your chocolate chip cookies or any other cookies that you prefer
You can freeze this mixture to make a delicious Ice Cream
Dip your warm banana bread into it.
Use it as a dip with your fresh fruit platter.

    How to do drink this?

Dalgona Coffee is milk topped with the whipped coffee and no, you cannot drink it just like that. Once the coffee is served to you, mix it well using a stirrer until coffee and milk combine well. Then sip it using a straw or directly from the glass.

What else can be added in this coffee?

You can add some vanilla extract, caramel syrup, or cocoa powder to the whipped coffee mixture. My fav add-on is baileys though.

    Storage Suggestions

Do not make the coffee and store. Instead, you can make the frothy coffee mixture and store it in the fridge in an airtight container for about a week. Whenever you want to serve it, add ice cubes, pour milk, and top with whipped coffee mixture. Mix well, before enjoying.

Whipped coffee can also be frozen for about a month in freezer safe containers.

    Variations

Chia Seed Dalgona Pudding – Top your chia pudding with this whipped coffee.

Cake Frosting – Mix some of the whipped coffee in your cake frosting for a fabulous coffee kick.

Smoothie Bowl – Mix a little of the whipped coffee in the smoothie and then top with your choice of fruit, nuts, and seeds.

Cheesecake – Mix some in the cheesecake batter and then bake it for a yummy coffee flavor.

    Top shot of whipped coffee.
