    About This Recipe

It is an Indian sweet made using potato as its base ingredient. It can be called as potato pudding in English.

To make this Indian sweet, mashed potatoes are cooked along with milk, sugar and cardamom powder. Cardamom Powder adds a delicious taste to the Halwa, with a slight hint of flavor. This Halwa is just like other Halwas, it’s just the base of the halwa is potatoes.

This delectable and easy Aloo Halwa is then garnished with almonds, pistachio and cashew nuts to add some richness to it. It also adds a nice crunch in the texture of the Halwa.

Serve this Halwa as a sweet dish after your Indian meals or just to serve to your guests during festivals and special occasions with some snacks and beverages.

Here are other Halwa recipes, that can be made on festivals and special occasions – Bread Halwa, Lauki Ka Halwa, Rajgira Halwa, Carrot Halwa, Suji Ka Halwa, Besan Ka Halwa, Aate Ka Halwa, and Rajasthani Moong Dal Halwa.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can butter be used instead of ghee to make this Halwa?

Yes, you can use butter instead of ghee, but ghee tastes better and gives it that authentic and caramelized taste, that butter won’t give. Also please don’t make this halwa in oil. It will just spoil the taste of this dessert.

Can I use Sweet Potatoes instead of Normal Potatoes?

Yes, you can use sweet potatoes. Follow the same process and make Sweet Potato Halwa which is also known as Shakarkandi Halwa.

    How to store Aloo Halwa?

If you have leftovers you can store this Halwa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 2 days. Heat it in a pan or microwave and serve. This halwa doesn’t freeze well.

    Serving Suggestions
