    About This Recipe

Frozen strawberry margarita is a refreshing summer cocktail made using frozen strawberries, tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, and honey. It comes together in under 5 minutes in a blender and is sure to impress the crowd.

Homemade frozen margarita is made without using a mix so it avoids sugar, artificial color, sodium, and preservatives. It free of additives and you can definitely feel that difference in just one sip.

This can be made ahead of time and frozen until ready to serve. The alcohol in it will prevent it from freezing completely.

Serve it for cinco de mayo parties, BBQ, potlucks or house parties, it’s going to be a sure shot hit.

    This Frozen Strawberry Margarita is,

    • Yummy
    • Refreshing
    • Smooth & Fruity
    • Easy + Quick
    • Made from scratch
    • Can be made ahead

    Ingredients

    Strawberry margarita ingredients.

Strawberries – Get fresh strawberries, wash and cut off the green leaf part of the fruit. Now chop them and freeze them to use in the drink. Buy red and juicy strawberries, without soft patches or black marks.

You can freeze the strawberries when they are in season and keep using them throughout the year. Check out my post on how to freeze strawberries.

You can also buy them in bulk from Costco.

Tequila – You can use any regular unflavored silver tequila for this drink. You can use any budget-friendly tequila as the strawberry flavor is very strong in this drink. My personal favorite is Tequila Resposado.

Grand Marnier is an orange-flavored liqueur. You can replace it with Cointreau or triple sec as well.

Sweetener – I have added honey to add a little sweetness, as strawberries are not that sweet. You can even add sugar or agave nectar instead.

Lime Juice – Use freshly squeezed lime juice for a refreshing tangy taste.

You would also need rock salt and lime to rim the glasses.

How to make Frozen Strawberry Margarita?

Start by rimming the margarita glasses. Add ½ cup rock salt to a wide plate. Now, cut the lime into half and press it against the rim of the glass. Invert the glass and press it on the salt all around so that the entire rim has a layer of salt on it. Prepare 4 glasses and keep them aside.

Note – Margarita is served in a special margarita glass. If you don’t have it, then serve them in any tall glass. Consider buying margarita glasses on Amazon.

    Rimmed glass.

Wash 1 pound of strawberries and remove the green leafy part of the fruit. Chop the strawberries and freeze them overnight or for 6 to 8 hours in a closed container.

Once the strawberries are frozen, remove them from the freezer and thaw for 5 minutes. Now add them to the medium size jar of a high-speed blender.

Frozen strawberries aded to a blender.

Add all the ingredients including ¾ cup tequila, ¼ cup Grand Marnier, ¼ cup lime juice, ¼ cup honey, and 1 cup crushed ice cubes to the jar.

Remaining ingredients added to the blender.

Blend until smooth. Add some water or orange juice if the margarita is too thick.

    Smooth margarita.

Add the margarita to the rimmed glasses. Garnish with a lime slice and serve immediately.

    Ready frozen strawberry margarita.

    Frequently Asked Questions?

Can I make a non alcoholic version of margarita?

If you don’t take alcohol, you can make a non-alcoholic version of this drink. This alcohol-free strawberry margarita will taste as good. Just skip adding the alcohol that is tequila and Grand Marnier and add 1 cup fresh orange juice instead.

How to make it without freezing the strawberries?

If you are not game to make a frozen version of this drink, you can definitely make an instant version of it too. You can serve this fresh strawberry margarita on the rocks so that it’s perfectly chilled while sipping.

Can I make it ahead of time?

Yes, you can! Just make the margarita and freeze it in a freezer-safe container until use. The alcohol in the drink will keep the margarita from freezing completely. When you want to serve it again, just quickly blitz in a blender and pour in the rimmed glasses to serve.

    Pro Tips By Neha

You should serve this drink immediately once made, hence, I advise that you prepare the glasses beforehand so that you can serve this chilled cocktail at the earliest.

Rimming the glasses is optional but highly recommended. Also use a lime wedge on the glass.

You can also make combinations like strawberry mango margarita or strawberry kiwi margarita. Try playing with different fruit combinations. In fact, you can use berries like raspberry, blueberry, or even mixed berries to make this summer drink.
