    About This Recipe

This instant pot steamed broccoli recipe is a keeper guys!

I have been cooking broccoli over the stovetop since forever but ever since I tried cooking it in an Instant Pot, my life has changed. This method is hand-free, easy, quick, there is no monitoring involved and you get perfect texture every single time.

Instant Pot Steamed Broccoli is crunchy and tender and not mushy and soft. Moreover, by steaming it in Instant Pot, all its nutrients are preserved.

Instant pot broccoli gets ready in less than 10 minutes, which means I have those 10 minutes to prep and cook other things for my meal. It is also vegan, glutefree, low carb and dairy free.

Now you must be wondering, why I called it 0 Minute recipe? Once we set the timer of the Instant Pot, it starts to build pressure inside, and once the pressure reaches a certain level, the timer starts. So here, we are basically cooking the broccoli with the building pressure and no more. Mystery of 0 Minutes solved?

Plus my recipe doesn’t require a steamer basket, so you will not have to invest in one more thing to make this awesome recipe.

    Health Benefits Of Broccoli

I like to include broccoli in my everyday diet as it is a powerhouse of nutrients. Broccoli is considered the healthiest and nutrient-packed vegetable and therefore including it in your everyday meals is very important.

It has a high amount of nutrition for a small number of calories. Broccoli is rich in antioxidants, Vit C, A and K, Folates, and minerals like Potassium. It also has a high amount of natural fiber.

    Ingredients

    Instant pot steamed broccoli ingredients.

You need just 5 ingredients to make this steamed broccoli – Broccoli, Salt, Pepper, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Lemon Juice.

While buying broccoli, check it properly for bugs. The head should be bright green in color and not yellowish. Rinse it nicely and then cut it into large florets. If the florets are too small, they will become mushy while cooking.

I like to season my steamed broccoli with lemon juice, salt, and pepper. I prefer it simple so that the taste of broccoli remains intact.

Also using a good quality olive oil is very important, so get the best one from the store.

How To Make Instant Pot Steamed Broccoli

Rinse a 1 lb broccoli head with water and cut it into equal size large florets. If the florets are too small, they will become mushy.

Add broccoli and ¼ cup cold water in the Instant Pot and close the lid of the pot.

Broccoli and water added to instant pot.

Set the valve to the sealing position. Press PRESSURE COOK and set the timer to zero minutes at HIGH PRESSURE.

    Timer set to 0 minutes.

It will take 10-12 minutes for the pressure to build up and the timer to start. Once the timer goes off, release the pressure manually immediately by moving the valve to the venting position. Use a large spoon to move the value. If you do not release the pressure immediately, the broccoli will get extra cooked and will become mushy. Once the pressure is released, open the lid.

    Lid opened.

Drain the broccoli in a colander to discard any leftover water. Season the broccoli with salt, pepper, 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil and 1 tablespoon lemon juice and serve warm.

Salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive added added to drained broccoli.
    Ready instant pot steamed broccoli.

    Seasoning Options

Here are some seasoning options that you can try apart from the regular salt, pepper and lemon juice.

Garlic – Along with olive oil, salt, and pepper, add in some garlic powder. You can also roast a garlic head and add the pulp for a more prominent garlic flavor.

Indian Masala – You can season the broccoli with Indian spices such as red chili powder and chaat masala powder along with salt and lemon juice.

Italian Twist – You can season it with seasonings such as oregano, red pepper flakes, dried thyme, or even dried basil.

Peri-Peri – Spice the steamed broccoli with tangy and spicy Peri Peri Powder.

    Pro Tips By Neha

Release the pressure immediately once the timer goes off to avoid overcooking.

Every Instant Pot is different and you might have to change the settings accordingly. If your broccoli is getting overcooked even at 0 Minute setting, then next time try to cook it at LOW PRESSURE instead of HIGH PRESSURE.

This recipe can be doubled or tripled. The cook time remains the same but use a bigger pot to cook. I used my 6-quart instant pot for 1 lb broccoli.

    Serving Suggestions

Broccoli made in Instant pot is a versatile recipe and can be served in many ways,

You can serve it on its own as a healthy snack in between the meals or whenever the hunger strikes.

You can serve it on the side with your Rice and Curry Combination, Noodles. Sandwiches, Wraps, etc.

I also like to serve this and some mashed potatoes on the side with Grilled Chicken, Grilled Fish, or other Grilled meat recipes.

You can add it to Stir Fry recipes such as Vegetable Stir Fries, Chicken Stir-Fries, or even to Fried Rice Recipes.

Add it to refreshing Salads or use it to make Soups.

    Storage Suggestions

Steamed Broccoli can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for 4 to 5 days. If you are making it in a bigger quantity, make sure to heat only the amount you want to serve.

To reheat it again, you can either do it in a pan on the stove or in a microwave until nice and warm. You can add in a little olive oil and mix while heating.
