Wine was never top on my list of drink until a few years back. It was only in the last decade when I started to travel abroad and experience the richness behind them. Back in India, there are few brands which have started to sell in the domestic market and are showing promising signs. KRSMA wines is one which was introduced earlier this year with a vision to appeal to the global palate. With the launch of super premium boutique wines including Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Chardonnay 2013, Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 and Sangiovese 2012 KRSMA wines is sure to make a mark on wine lovers.
KRSMA Estates is the brainchild of entrepreneur couple Krishna Prasad & Uma Chirugupati. Both of them are run enthusiasts and have run various marathons including the ones in Antarctica and North Pole. It is during the travels of the couple across the global vineyards for wine tasting that they increased the desire to bring global standards of wines to India. Selecting to grow their vineyards in the backdrop of Hampi, the world heritage site, they are exploring the hot and dry climate with iron rich schist type soil to make a mark on the world map.
KRSMA makes single varietal wines which are hand crafted from vineyards to winery making only limited number of bottles per year. The couple take personal interest in producing wines, deciding the time of harvest of grapes to the yeast used to selecting the barrels to age the wine. KRSMA wines are available at Madhuloka, Drops and Food Hall for retail among few other. Shiro is one among few restaurants having these wines on the menu.
I was invited for KRSMA wine tasting at Shiro, U B City, Bangalore and loved the pairing of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc with the Teppanyaki style food served.
KRSMA Estates has become the first Indian winery to win a gold medal in a US wine competition. The Sauvignon Blanc 2013 was awarded a Gold medal with 91 points while the Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 was awarded a Silver medal. Chardonnay 2013 and Sangiovese 2012 were both awarded Bronze Medal at this competition.
KRSMA wines for sure has the taste to cater to the growing number of wine connoisseurs and represent the Indian wines in worlds market. So here is wishing KRSMA wines all the best.
