Bengali’s are known to be food lovers and I’m blessed with a few great friends from this part of the country. I always look forward to having some delicious Bengali fare, so the traditional Bengali food festival with a modern twist @ Hilton Golf Link, Bangalore was definitely not to be missed. Chef Subhash Jana & Chef Anirban Das have gone the extra mile to create a delectable food menu with dishes like Aloo Batar Shorshe, Prawn Kabiraji tempura and many more. The plating was equally wonderful and so was the ambiance.
We started off with Ghol. Ghol is a drink made with Curd and usually flavored with cumin and mint. To give it a lovely twist, Chef flavored it with Gandharaj lemon and topped it with a lemon zest foam. The addition of Gandharaj made it very refreshing and flavorful.
Mutton Cordonbleu cutlet. The crust was nice and crispy and the mutton filling was nicely flavored with a hint of Emmenthal and Jalapeno.
I could not get over these Aloo Batar Shorshe. Instead of using baby potatoes, Chef boiled, mashed and flavored the regular potatoes and coated them with Tempura batter and fried till nice and crisp. These were then coated with Kashundi sauce. Served in a Batar ( Mortar ), these were one of my favorite dish.
Prawn Kabiraji tempura. Prawns marinated with raw mango and shaved ginger and made in to a Tempura.
A dish worthy of applauds. Aam pora Granita made with roasted raw mangoes was much more than a palate cleanser. Served in style over a bed of crumbled chocolate, apricots and raisins and topped with a Vodka jelly and mint leaves, this one totally wowed me.
Broccoli Chennar dalna. Chenna ballas and broccoli fritters in a creamy sauce served as a main course dish. You can enjoy this on it’s own or pair it with some rice.
Stunning presentation of this Jhalmuri crusted Kolkata Beckti Bhapa. The traditional Bheckti Bhapa given a twist by crusting it with rice crispies and dehydrated onions and tomatoes. It was served on a bed of banana pith hash.
Mutton roast served with uber flavorful Gobindhobhog pulao. An outstanding dish.
Chef Subhash Jana with his creations.
Stunningly presented dessert platter. In my opinion, it still need a little work on it in terms of flavor combinations and taste. Although the presentation was great, the desserts failed to make an impression.
Different sauces to drizzle on your dessert were served in test tubes and the flavors were delicious.
I loved the Bengali fare and would love to have it again. Although the festival is over, Hilton is ever willing to create the same platter on advance request. Go on and indulge as and when you want in this lovely ambiance.
