Pasta Chips is a crazy Tiktok trend where cooked pasta is deep-fried (or air fried) until crispy and then tossed with savory seasonings. Serve these with a dipping sauce as a perfect appetizer.

Here are some more of my favorite appetizer recipes that you might like – Air Fryer Wings, Chicken Tempura, Caprese Skewers, Melting Potatoes, and Corn Cheese Balls.

    About This Recipe

Pasta Chips is a viral Tiktok trend where cooked pasta is deep-fried or air-fried until crispy. The golden fried pasta is then tossed with seasonings and served as an appetizer.

It is a very unique party snack recipe that is super easy to make and comes together in under 25 minutes.

This recipe is also a great way to use leftover cooked pasta. So waiting for what, make this addictive appetizer for your next game day night and serve it with your favorite dipping sauce.

Note – My personal favorite is the deep-fried version but you can definitely try the air frying method for a healthier recipe.

    Ingredients

    Pasta chips ingredients.

Pasta – I make this snack using bowtie pasta as it looks super cute but you can use any pasta of your choice. Rigatoni, Penne are some other options.

You can also use gluten-free or vegan pasta.

Oil – Use canola oil or any other neutral flavor oil to fry the chips.

Seasonings – I used grated parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to season pasta chips. You can use any seasoning of your choice. I have mentioned a few examples in the post below.

    How To Make Pasta Chips

    Cook The Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook 1 lb (500 g) bowtie pasta until al dente, about 8 minutes.

    Pasta cooking in salted water.

    Drain the pasta.

Line a large baking tray with a dishcloth and spread the cooked pasta over it. Cover it with another dishcloth and press gently to absorb any extra moisture.

This is a very important step to get crispy pasta.

Refrigerate the pasta for 3-4 hours. This step will also get rid of some moisture.

If you are pressed with time, then spread the pasta on the baking sheet and freeze it for 15 minutes.

Drained pasta spread on the baking sheet lined with a dish towel.

Tip – If the pasta is sticking to each other, toss it with some flour and then fry. It will make your pasta crispy and crunchy.

    Deep Frying Method

In a wide skillet, pour about 2-3 cups of canola oil and heat over medium heat.

When oil is shimmering, add about 1 cup of cooked pasta to the pan.

    Pasta frying in oil.

Fry on medium heat until golden and crispy. Keep stirring while frying frequently.

Drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

    Draining the pasta.

Sprinkle some parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the fried pasta immediately and toss well.

Fry the remaining pasta in the same manner.

Do not overcrowd the pan while frying otherwise the chips will not turn crunchy.

    Serve with any dipping sauce.

Ready pasta chips tossed with parmesan cheese, salt and pepepr.

    Air Fryer Method

Arrange the cooked pasta in the basket of an air fryer in a single layer. Spray with oil.

Air fry at 400 degrees F for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Shake the basket every 4 minutes for even browning.

Sprinkle some parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the fried pasta immediately and toss well.

Air fry the remaining pasta in the same manner. Serve hot with a dipping sauce.

    Seasoning Options

Here are a few more seasoning options that can be tried for pasta chips variations.

Taco Seasoning – Use a store-bought seasoning or make it at home using my recipe – Homemade Taco Seasoning.

Cajun Seasoning – Use a store-bought seasoning or make it at home using my recipe – Homemade Cajun Seasoning.

Indian Spice Mix – You can make a mixture of paprika, curry powder, garam masala, black pepper powder, salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder and use it to season the fried pasta.

Asian Blend – Use a combination of toasted sesame seeds, a little ground ginger, and garlic powder.

    Storage Suggestions

These pasta chips taste best right out of the oven but you can store them in an airtight container for up to 5 days at room temperature. Make sure to cool completely before storing them.
