Its always good to take a small break in between the busy schedule I run with. Recently I drove to one of the oldest and most gorgeous gardens in the stale of Karnataka, India for a stay at Royal Orchid Brindavan Garden Mysore. The property built in early 1900’s was run by prestigious hotel groups of the times and used to host British dignitaries and high profile visitors coming to visit the Brindavan Gardens. It still stands majestic overlooking Brindavan Gardens and is a unique experience in itself given by the Royal Orchid group. It is one of the best weekend getaway from Bangalore that you could ask for. A king like stay in traditionally styled bedrooms with all modern amenities, with a balcony overlooking the majestic KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens is something special to be experienced personally.
For tourists going from Bangalore to Mysore, early mornings are the best time to travel. I started around about 7AM from east of Bangalore and took the NICE road to get to Mysore road. I’ve travelled multiple times on this highway and over a period of time, many new traditional and modern eateries have come up all the way to Mysore. We had our simple south Indian breakfast at Malgudi, just before Ramnagar town. It was a nice cosy place with good quality food. The breakfast for 3 costed us about INR 400/-.

Weekend Getaway from Bangalore
Rooms at Royal Orchid, Brindavan Garden, Mysore
View of the Brindavan Gardens from our room.
We headed to the front restaurant to have our lunch overlooking the garden. The chef’s and servers gave a pretty good service while we basked in the views.
There are a number of activities you could enjoy in the property, right from Billiards, Swimming, Badminton, Trampoline, Fishing and our most favourite, a giant chess board on which we played a few games.
After relaxing for a few hours, Mr Arijit Gupta, General Manager of Royal Orchid, Brindavan Gardens, Mysore took us on the other side of the KRS dam. He engaged us in great anecdotes from the history of the property through multiple decades. I was a bit sad to see the state of affairs with water levels dipping to historical lows in the dam, nonetheless, it was a great spot with amazing views of the Cauvery river flowing on the the dam and Mr. Gupta was an excellent company to be with.
We were back at the property, just before the sunset and could catch a lovely glimpse of sun setting over the KRS Dam. Following the sunset, the Brindavan gardens started to glow with with lights, brimming with tourists all over. We of course had the front row seats to all the awesome views from Hotel Royal Orchid. I was so happy to have chosen Royal Orchid, Brindavan Gardens as my weekend getaway from Bangalore.
The elephant bar on the first floor is a great place to relax in the evening looking at the illuminated gardens (from 7PM to 8:30PM).
The evening was another good experience at the live grill counter dishing out all kinds of Indian delicacies.
The breakfast was served as a buffet with choices ranging from Idli, Dosa, Eggs to Order, Juice, Breads, Sausage and other varieties.
Overall, it was a great Weekend break from Bangalore and I totally loved the experience. I’m sure to go back again to this wonderful property and I totally recommend you giving it a try for your weekend escape from Bangalore.
