    About the Recipe

Salted Caramel Sauce, it is one of my favorite sauces to use in the desserts, as it has a subtle flavor without making the desserts over sugary. Prepared using just 4 ingredients, this sauce is very convenient and even takes less time to prepare it at home.

It is a delicious combination of sugar, heavy cream, butter, and sea salt, where sugar is melted and caramelized and then mixed with other ingredients to make a delicious caramel.

After buying it for like a zillion times from a supermarket, this time, I have decided to make it at home and the result has turned out to be nothing but awesome.

Salted Caramel is a very versatile sauce that can be used on top of your ice creams, brownies, pancakes, waffles, milkshakes, many more desserts, and even as a dip.

The best part about this sauce, it lasts for a longer period. Thus, whenever I have a little free time on my hands and I prepare this Caramel and store so that it comes in handy whenever I need it to the top of my desserts.

    This sauce is,

    • Easy to make
    • Yummy
    • Prepared with few ingredients
    • Inexpensive
    • Better than the store-bought ones

    Ingredients

    Salted Caramel Ingredients.

This recipe uses just 4 ingredients – Sugar, Unsalted Butter, Heavy Cream, and Sea Salt.

You can even use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar to make this sauce. It’s sweet, sticky, buttery because of the caramelized sugar and butter used. Use only unsalted butter for this one.

Heavy Cream is added in the end, which adds a nice creaminess to this sauce. You can also add milk instead of cream, but cream gives it a nice rich taste.

Sea Salt is added for that much needed saltiness in the creamy sweet caramel Sauce.

    Step By Step Recipe

Now just swirl the pan and cook the sugar till it is deep amber in color. This is the most important step. Sugar can burn in just a few seconds, so take extra care.

    Amber coloured sugar.

If you have a candy thermometer, cook the sugar till it reaches 320 degrees F (160 degrees C). This temperature is important. Sugar mixture should not go beyond this temperature otherwise it will burn.

Sugar temperature reaches 350 Degrees F.

When the mixture has reached the desired color and temperature, add the butter and whisk until it is combined.

Remove the pan from heat and add the cream slowly.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How to make Salted Caramel without Cream?

To make it without Cream, you can use milk instead of cream. Once you mix the butter with the melted sugar, add in milk slowly and keep mixing it using a whisk.

Do not add in the entire milk in one go, as the temperature of melted sugar is very high and the milk can separate when gets contacted with high heat. So add the milk slowly and keep mixing it.

How to make Salted Caramel with Condensed Milk?

To make it using Condensed Milk, add butter and sugar in a pan and once the sugar melts, add in the condensed milk. Mix and cook the sauce over medium heat for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Add in sea salt and give it a mix.

Switch off the stove and keep it aside to cool it down. Once it cools down, store it in an airtight container.

How to make Chocolate Salted Caramel?

To make Caramel with Chocolate, prepare the sauce as per the given recipe. Once you add the cream, mix the sauce, keep the pan back on the heat.

Now add in the melted chocolate, mix until it is smooth and creamy. Switch off the stove and set it aside to cool down. You can use it in any Chocolate – Milk, Dark, or Semi-Sweet.

    Storage Suggestions

This Caramel Sauce is very easy to make at home and can be refrigerated for about a month once made. Store it in a properly cleaned and dry glass jar or container, before placing it in the refrigerator. Cover it tightly before storing it.

You can also freeze Caramel Sauce in a freezer safe container for about 2-3 months.

The sauce will set once refrigerated but you can easily microwave and bring back to pouring consistency.
