Terracotta at Vivanta By Taj, Whitefield, Bangalore Review
Vivanta by Taj has established itself as a leader in the most imaginative, vivacious and stylish way. Its restaurants have time and again proved their mettle with their established chefs and innovative cuisines. This time I was invited to try the North West Frontier Cuisine at its contemporary restaurant, Terracotta at Vivanta by Taj, Whitefield. The restaurant is set as a private dining room along with a patio so you can enjoy the great outside weather or nice traditional ambiance. Chef Anwar Ali Ansari brings to life the age old delicacies and traditional recipes from Afganistan to Punjab, Sind & Kashmir some with very interesting twists.
The menu is pretty impressive and I enjoyed the evening interacting with the Chef on various recipes, ingredients and tips.
Among the starters I tried Galouti Kebab, Potli Tangdi Kebab, Tandoori Apricots and Kakori Kebab along with a hot serving of Paya. The dishes use best of the ingredients and beat each other in the taste, however if you have to pick one go for the Galouti Kebab. These Kebab’s just melt in mouth and had the perfect blend of spices. Tandoori apricots was definitely one nice twist to the North West Frontier cuisine.
Among the main course, the menu is equally impressive and boasts of signature dishes like Terracotta special Dal Makhani, Lahori Chicken, Smoked Eggplant, Lamb Biryani, Broccoli Jalfrezi, Palak Rasgulla etc. These served along with a choice of Indian breads entices your palette yearning to have more and more. Chef Anwar Ali Ansari showed how these delectable dishes are cooked in semi-porous clay pots bringing the unique earthly flavors in each of the dishes. The plating of dishes was impressive as well and goes a good distance to impress the guests.
Desserts is where the twist comes out a great deal. The Garlic Kheer absolutely stands out and it tastes as if it was full of almond slivers. While you think you are over this, there is Mutton ka Halwa, quite extraordinary and delicious at the same time. These are absolutely “Wow” dishes and I was in absolute awe of the Chef.
I’m definite to go back to taste this wonderful menu soon and you should definitely try these sophisticated and myriad flavors from Chef Anwar Ali Ansari’s hand. He will be more more than happy to interact with you and take you on a tour of his kitchen. Reservations are recommended so you have best of the places booked for you.
