Since it opened earlier this year, VR Bengaluru, Bengaluru has been giving a tough competition to next door Phoenix Mall. The newest entry to the sprawling mall is The Whitefield Arms, a British Anglo Indian pub and restaurant. The restaurant is part of The Waverly Hotel & Residences and is situated on the ground along the quieter side of the centre, giving it a perfect setting. The ambiance created with colonial themed wooden furniture, an outdoor seating, one of the longest bar at 30 ft, quirky quotes all along supplemented with a great service, it is a good place to catchup with old friends and family.
The story of Whitefield as we know started way back in 1882, when the Maharaja of Mysore Charmaraja Wodeyar gave about 3900 acres for the settlement of Anglo Indian community. Over time it developed into a homely village of Anglo Indians and maintained it status quo for about a century before transforming into the current vibrant hub with Technology companies, residential colonies and malls and lifestyle destinations.
In 1896, a young British army officer by the name of Winston Churchill arrived in Bangalore and, as narrated by the ex-prime minister himself, fell in love with the weather, flowers and butterflies the city had to offer. In fact, the historic Bangalore Club proudly claims this butterfly obsessed officer still owes the club 13 Rupees from an unpaid bill during one of his visits. The young Lieutenant was a frequent visitor of the Waverly Inn at Whitefield, where he is believed to have stayed on occasion. Rumour has it that during his visits, Churchill courted Rose Hamilton, the daughter of James Hamilton, who was the then owner of the Inn. The Waverly Inn still stands today, though it is now a private residence. The Inn now has a new hotel and residence built into the VR Bengaluru which hosts The Whitefield Arms pub and restaurant. The pub is also looking to open the microbrewery, but for now I’d to be content with some interesting cocktails on the menu.
So here is what I got to taste.
TWA Chips, Cheese & Gravy – Crispy Fries topped with Dal Makhani, cheese, chopped jalapeños, green chilies and onion

Its a good place to buy some peace in the bustling suburbs of Whitefield, so go ahead and spend some quality time with your friends and family. A meal for two would cost about 1500/- plus taxes. I recommend making a reservation
