Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pressure cooker over medium-high heat.
Add onions and cook until light brown. Add ginger, garlic and fry for 2 minutes.
Add green chilies, tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder and cook for a minute.
Add the dal to the pot along with 3 cups of water, and salt to taste and stir well.
Close the pressure cooker and cook for 1 whistle on high heat. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 10-12 minutes.
Add 1 tablespoon lime juice to the pot and mix the cooked dal well using a wire whisk.
Heat ghee. Add cumin seeds, hing, dry red chilies and garlic and fry until it turns golden brown in color.
Switch off the heat and add 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder to the pan.
Add tempering and fresh cilantro to the dal and mix. Serve hot.
