GREEN MOONG DAL

Wash green moong dal with water 2-3 times. Soak the dal in 3-4 cups of water for 30 minutes.

STEP 1

Drain the water and add the soaked dal to a pressure cooker. Add 4 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt, and mix well.

STEP 2

Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 1 whistle on high heat. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 10 minutes.

STEP 3

Remove the cooker from the heat and let the pressure release naturally. Open the lid and whisk the dal using a wire whisk.

STEP 5

Check for salt and add more if needed. Add some boiling hot water if the dal is thick for your liking. Add lime juice and mix well.

STEP 6

Heat ghee in a small pan over medium-high heat.

STEP 7

Once the ghee is hot, add garlic and fry until it turns light brown in color, stirring frequently.

STEP 8

Add asafetida and cumin seeds and let them crackle for 4-5 seconds.

STEP 9

Switch off the heat and add red chili powder and mix using a spoon.

STEP 10

Pour the tempering immediately over the dal and mix well. Serve hot.
