Oriental crispy mushrooms is an Indo Chinese recipe where mushroom are coated in a batter and fried till crisp and then tossed in a spicy oriental sauce.


  • 250 g Mushroom Use small mushrooms for this recipe
  • 3 tbsp Cornflour
  • 3 tbsp Maida
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Garlic chopped
  • 1 Onion cut into cubes
  • 2 Green chilli chopped
  • 1 Green pepper cut into cubes
  • 1 Yellow or red pepper cut into cubes
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped spring onions for garnishing


  1. Wash the mushroom and wipe them with a kitchen towel.
  2. Cut the stalk and keep them for later use.
  3. Mix cornflour, all purpose flour, salt and black pepper powder in a bowl.
  4. Add little water and mix to make a thick batter.
  5. Dip the mushroom heads in the batter and leave for 10 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a pan.
  7. When the oil is hot, add the mushrooms and fry till golden brown.
  8. Do not overcrowd the pan otherwise the mushrooms will stick together.
  9. Remove in a plate and keep aside.
  10. Heat 2 tsp oil in a wok.
  11. Add garlic when the oil is hot.
  12. Add onions and bell peppers and fry for a minute.
  13. Now add soy sauce, vinegar, black pepper, salt and fried mushrooms and toss well.

  14. Garnish with spring onions.
  15. Serve immediately.

  17. Use a very light bottom wok for best result.
  18. Make this dish only when you are ready to serve. If you fry mushrooms beforehand, they will turn soggy.
  19. Toss the mushrooms in the sauce just before serving, to keep them crispy and crunchy.
  20. You can adjust the amount of green chili according to your taste and preference.
  21. Use mushrooms with small head for this recipe.
