Make Perfect Birista / Crispy Golden Fried Onions

  • Onions - 1 kg
  • Oil for frying


  1. Peel the onions and wash them.
  2. Cut the onions into thin slices.
  3. Make sure the slices are almost equal in size to ensure even browning.
  4. Take a large kitchen towel and spread the onion slices over it.
  5. Leave aside for a few hours to get rid of the excess moisture.
  6. Heat oil in a pan.
  7. The oil should be enough to cover the onion slices.
  8. When the oil is hot, add the onion.
  9. Fry on high heat for 5-6 minutes.
  10. Now simmer the heat and fry till onions are golden brown.
  11. Keep stirring the onions.
  12. Remove the onions on a plate lined with kitchen tissue.
  13. Keep in mind that onions will brown slightly more even after taking out from the oil.
  14. Spread the Birista over the plate lined with kitchen tissue.
  15. Leave the Birista on the plate for 4-5 minutes.
  16. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to a month.
