Orange Chaat (Santra Chaat) is a delicious North Indian entrée dish where sweet oranges are coated with a spicy, tangy masala made with coriander, garlic, green chilies, red chili powder, black salt, and lime juice. It is a great snack to munch on in between meals. Make it using my easy recipe.
Cut the oranges in half horizontally. Remove the peel completely. Gently remove excess white fibre (this prevents bitterness), then separate the segments carefully and set aside.
If using regular oranges, then peel and cut the slices into small pieces.
Make The Fresh Green Paste
Add garlic, green chilies, coriander, mint leaves, and salt to a mortar and pestle.
Crush to make a coarse paste.
Assemble The Chaat
Add the oranges to a large mixing bowl.
Add the fresh green paste, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, black salt, sugar, and lime juice, and mix everything well.
Chill for 30 minutes before serving. Resting the orange chaat for a while brings out the flavors very well.
