Orange Chaat (Santra Chaat) is a delicious North Indian entrée dish where sweet oranges are coated with a spicy, tangy masala made with coriander, garlic, green chilies, red chili powder, black salt, and lime juice. It is sweet, spicy, salty, and citrusy, all at once. It is a great snack to munch on between meals or to serve with your main course as a salad. Make it using my easy recipe.

I am a chaat lover and keep trying new recipes all the time. Papdi Chaat, Samosa Chaat, and Bhelpuri are made very frequently in my house. I recently tried Makhana Bhel and this orange chaat, and both have become our new favorites at home. Do give this recipe a try.
Ingredients
- Oranges – Use sweet, juicy oranges. This recipe depends entirely on the quality of the fruit. I used clementine mandarins from Sam’s Club; they are seedless, super sweet, and juicy.
- Green chilies – Adjust based on your heat tolerance, but don’t skip them.
- Spices – You will need salt, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and black salt.
- Sugar is added to round everything out.
- Others – You will need garlic, cilantro, mint leaves, and lime juice.
How To Make Santra Chaat
Prepare The Oranges
Step 1: Cut 8-10 mini oranges in half horizontally. Remove the peel completely. Gently remove any excess white fibre (this prevents bitterness), then carefully separate the segments and set them aside.

If using regular oranges, then peel and cut the slices into small pieces.
Make The Fresh Green Paste
Step 2: Add 2 cloves of garlic (peeled), 1 green chili (cut into pieces), ยผ cup coriander, 2 tablespoon mint leaves, and ยฝ teaspoon salt to a mortar and pestle. Crush to make a coarse paste.

Assemble The Chaat
Step 3: Add the oranges to a large mixing bowl. Add the fresh green paste and the following ingredients, and mix everything well.
- ยฝ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- ยฝ teaspoon red chili powder
- ยฝ teaspoon black salt
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice

Step 4: Chill for 30 minutes before serving. Resting the orange chaat for a while brings out its flavors very well.

Storage Suggestions
Leftover orange chaat can be stored in an airtight glass container for up upto a day. After that, the oranges will start to get mushy.
