If you have been to the Bonefish Grill Restaurant, you will know this popular sauce they use to coat their shrimp appetizer.
This Bonefish Grill copycat homemade version is absolutely delicious, and I see no reason not to make it at home. It is much more economical to make at home than buying a bottle, and you can easily double or triple the recipe as needed.
This sweet and spicy sauce is gluten-free and vegetarian.
Once you make this divine sauce, try it on shrimp, fish, or chicken, or use it as an appetizer dip. You can do so much with this simple yet super versatile sauce.

Ingredients

Mayonnaise – Mayonnaise makes the base of this sauce. I like to use full-fat mayonnaise as it makes the sauce very rich and creamy but feel free to use low-fat mayo if you are concerned about the calories.
Use eggless mayonnaise to make the sauce vegan.
Thai Sweet Chili Sauce gives the sauce a sweet and spicy kick. Use store-bought or make it home with my simple sweet chili sauce recipe.
Sriracha Sauce – Add sriracha sauce for that extra spicy kick.
The sweetness from Thai sweet chili sauce is perfect, but you can make it sweeter by adding little honey or maple syrup.
Add some garlic powder and smoked paprika to add more flavor to your homemade bang bang sauce recipe.
I sometimes add some cayenne or hot sauce for extra spice and a dash of lemon juice or rice vinegar for that perfect tartness.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t want to add mayo to your sauce or want to make a healthier version of the same, then you can substitute mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt. It gives this sauce a healthy twist and the same creamy texture.
If you are looking for a vegan option, you can use vegan mayonnaise instead of regular. If using a sweetener, use maple syrup in place of honey.
You can also replace vegan mayonnaise with coconut yogurt for a healthier version.
To make a keto version, use keto-friendly mayo instead of regular mayonnaise and garlic chili sauce instead of sweet chili sauce.
Serving Suggestions
This bang bang shrimp sauce is inspired by the original Bonefish Grill bang bang shrimp appetizer, and I first made this sauce for the shrimp. But I liked the flavor so much that now I serve it with almost everything.
Drizzle it over grilled chicken, shrimp, fish, pork, or beef, or use it as a dip for bacon wrapped shrimp, gochujang chicken wings, or any other appetizer.
You can also slather this sauce on wraps and burgers or pour it on crispy fried fries, potato wedges, or even potato cakes.
You can also serve it with vegetarian recipes such as whole roasted cauliflower, roasted broccoli or roasted zucchini, etc.
Use it as a great dipping sauce with your fried appetizers such as chicken nuggets, crispy french fries, crab cakes, boom boom shrimp, crispy fried shrimp, Chinese spring rolls, fish fingers, chicken cheese balls, etc.
The ideas are endless! You can perk up any dish with this incredible sauce.
Storage Suggestions
Leftover sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last up to 10 days.
