    About Cafe Style Cold Coffee

Cafe Style Cold Coffee (Cold Coffee Shake, Cold Coffee Milkshake) is a creamy cold beverage, that has mainly five ingredients – instant coffee, milk, milk powder, vanilla ice cream, and sugar.

It is a very popular beverage on almost all cafe menus and is a perfect drink to sip on hot days of summer.

Cold Coffee is creamy, rich, and sweet, and the frothy foam layer on top makes this drink super addictive.

I have been making this cafe-style cold coffee recipe for a very long time and trust me, it’s a notch better than most cafes you go to.

It comes together in just 5 minutes using a few simple ingredients and it is much more economical to make at home too.

This recipe is the basic version but you can play around with it and make new flavors. Think chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, cinnamon, etc.

    Ingredients

    Cafe style cold coffee ingredients

Coffee – I like to make this frothy cold coffee using instant coffee powder and that’s how it is made in the cafes too. Instant coffee powder is also easily available, easy to use, and tastes delicious.

Having said that, you can use any type of you like to make it – espresso shots, cold brew coffee, drip coffee, and filter coffee decoction work great. Use ¼ cup of these in place of coffee powder.

Milk – For the creamiest version of coffee, use whole milk (full-fat milk). You can also use low-fat milk or skim milk to make healthier coffee, but the texture won’t be as creamy.

For a vegan version, replace dairy milk with non-dairy options such as almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or any other vegan milk that you prefer.

Sugar – I like to use granulated sugar to sweeten my coffee. You can increase or decrease the quantity as per your liking.

You can replace sugar with sugar-free substitutes like stevia or monk fruit.

Milk Powder – The addition of milk powder (dairy whitener) is optional but it will add an extra creamy texture to your coffee. In case you are making a vegan version, you can just skip adding it.

Ice Cream – The cafe style cold coffee is super rich from the addition of vanilla ice cream. You can replace it with chocolate ice cream if you like chocolaty coffee.

Ice Cubes – Throw in a few ice cubes while blending. It is an essential step to get frothy coffee.

Chocolate Syrup – Use it to garnish the serving glasses just like they do in cafes.

    How To Make Cold Coffee

Garnish two tall glasses by drizzling some chocolate syrup on the sides. Freeze the glasses for 10 minutes.

Chocolate syrup drizzled on the sides of the glass.

Stir together 4 teaspoon instant coffee powder, 2 tablespoon sugar, and 2 tablespoon warm milk in a small mixing bowl.

Coffee powder, sugar and milk added to a bowl.

Mix until the sugar is dissolved.

    Mixed well.

Add 2 cups of chilled milk, 1 tablespoon milk powder, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 3-4 ice cubes, and the coffee mixture to the medium jar of a blender and blend for a minute.

All the ingredients added to a blender.
    Blend until smooth.

Pour the coffee into the prepared glasses.

Coffee poured in the prepared glass.

Scoop the froth using a spoon and top it over the coffee.

Sprinkle some coffee powder on top and serve immediately.

    Ready cafe style cold coffee.

    Topping Suggestions

You can serve this coffee drink as it is with a frothy top or top it with some interesting and yummy ingredients such as ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or coffee-flavored), caramel syrup, chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, chocolate wafers, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.

    Pro Tips By Neha

If you want the coffee to be stronger, then increase the quantity of instant coffee powder and vice versa.

Make it fresh and serve. The frothy top tends to go away if kept for longer.

You can add in some chocolate syrup or cocoa powder along with instant coffee powder, to make it a little more chocolaty.

You can freeze some brewed coffee in ice cube trays and use the coffee ice cubes in place of regular ice cubes to make stronger coffee.

    Storage Suggestions

This coffee tastes the best when served immediately after blending. The froth tends to settle down if kept for a longer time.

However, if you have leftover coffee, then store it in an airtight container or a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Just shake it vigorously just before serving to make some new froth.

Quick and delicious. There are so many ways to “dress up” the basic recipe if you so desire, but it’s great just as is.
