Isn’t Chinese food comfort any day? Do you like to get Chinese take away whenever you are tired or need something yummy to eat? Chinese food is a rave in my house and we all love it equally, be it us adults or the kids. It is just amazing.
What if I tell you that you can make those garlic noodles at home that you order in from your favourite Asian takeout place? Yeah, you heard me right. They are super easy to make and are so delicious that you would never want a take out.
These garlic noodles are plain delicious. There is no other way other way to describe these. These are light and mildly spicy and a breeze to make. This is a fuss-free recipe and you will find all the ingredients easily in any Asian grocery store.
So, without wasting time, let’s make these delicious garlic noodles.
What are Garlic Noodles?
Garlic noodles are wok-tossed noodles in a lot of garlic and dry red chillies. You can do some variations to these garlic noodles and make them more scrumptious and filling.
If you like you can throw in some shrimps, chicken or mushroom, depending on what you prefer. You can also add sauces like soy sauce, red chilli sauce, vinegar etc to this recipe.
They make for a meal in itself or can be served with a Chinese gravy.
Garlic Noodles Ingredients
Noodles: Use any good egg noodles to make this recipe. I have even made this recipe with flat pasta and it worked out perfectly fine.
Sesame Oil: Sesame oil adds a nutty flavor to the recipe and is one of the most important ingredient of Chinese cooking. Don’t leave it. You can buy a small bottle and can keep on using it for a long time to make various Chinese dishes. If you are not a fan of sesame oil, then any regular oil will work too.
Garlic: Garlic is the star of this dish and the amount of garlic can make or break this dish. Mince the garlic finely for best flavour.
Dry Red Chillies: Dried red chillies add the heat that is needed for the perfect garlic noodles. You can choose to skip it if you want plain noodles.
Soy Sauce: Soy sauce is another important ingredient for Asian cooking. I haven’t added any sauce in this recipe but you can definitely add some sauces if you wish to. You can also add rice vinegar, chilli paste etc to perk up the noodles.
MSG – Adding MSG is totally optional but it adds a great umami flavour to the noodles and gives them that restaurant style taste.
Spring onions: Spring onion take these noodles to another level and are the perfect garnish.
Garlic Noodles Recipe
To make garlic noodles, first let’s get the noodles ready before tossing them with garlic in a wok. Take water in a large pan and add 1 tbsp salt. Bring the water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, add noodles to it. Let the noodles cook till they are done.
Meanwhile chop garlic finely. Take a wok and add some oil to it. Add the chopped garlic and cook till garlic turns slightly brown in color. Do this step on medium low heat. We want to garlic to get crispy and browned and not burned.
Now add onion and dry red chillies and cook for a minute. Meanwhile strain the cooked noodles and put them immediately in the wok. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, chilli paste, if you are using in the wok and mix well.
Sprinkle spring onion on top. Top with fried garlic. and serve hot with any Chinese gravy.
Can you freeze Garlic Noodles?
You can refrigerate the leftover noodles for up to 2 days and re-heat them in a microwave when you need to serve. You can freeze these for upto 3 months.
What to serve with Garlic Noodles?
You can serve garlic noodles with any Chinese gravy, such as garlic tofu, vegetables in oyster sauce, chilli chicken, chicken in hot and sour sauce, stir fried vegetables in hot garlic sauce, chicken or shrimp in garlic sauce and more.

- 200 g Egg Noodles
- 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 tbsp Garlic Finely Chopped
- 1/2 cup Onion Cubed
- 3-4 Dry Red Chillies
- 1 tsp MSG Optional
- 1/4 cup Spring Onion Chopped
Add water in a large pan.
Add 1 tbsp salt in it.
When the water comes to a boil, add the noodles.
Cook till noodles are done.
Meanwhile, add oil in a wok.
Add the chopped garlic and cook till garlic is slightly brown in color.
Add onion and dry red chillies and cook for a minute.
Strain the cooked noodles and add them immediately in the wok along with MSG and toss well.
Sprinkle spring onion on top.
Top with more fried garlic for added flavour.
Serve hot with any Chinese gravy.
