Tired of soggy, boiled sweet potatoes? Hail Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes which get ready, silky smooth in 30-35 minutes (yes, with natural pressure release). Quick and easy to pull off, it has become one of my favourite instant pot recipes. Do refer it today! Here is how to make Instant Pot Sweet Potato.

Instant Pot Sweet Potato served in a plate.

We use potatoes many times, no? To make Aloo Sabudana , Aloo Chaat or simply Potato Cheese Balls!

In that lieu every time, sweet potatoes get set-lined. But, I have decided to change that!

Because, now we can cook the medium sweet potatoes, large sweet potatoes, small sweet potatoes in no time in an Instant Pot.

Remember before a few days I had made Instant Pot Brown Rice, Instant Pot Oat Meal, Instant Pot Chicken Breast? Guess what?

They turned out so amazing that I made Sweet Potato in the instant pot as well!

And, most importantly, they turned out way better and less mushy than the ones we make in an electric pressure cooker or just on pressure cook mode.

Firstly, if you are on Whole30 or not, let me tell you, sweet potatoes are really great for your health.

Mainly, they contain a great amount of fibre. Also, they are full of vitamin C, manganese, vitamin A.

    Benefits

    • They are full of anti-oxidants.
    • Want to lose weight? Go full throttle and consume sweet potato.
    • They also stabilize sugar levels.
    • Improve eye health.

You can read about the benefits in detail here.

Especially relevant is to say that you can reap all the above benefits by making Instant Pot Sweet Potato whenever you like.

It doesn’t consume a bulk of your time at all. Simply place sweet potatoes on the steamer basket or a trivet of Instant Pot and in a few minutes, get ready to dine over velvety and tender sweet potatoes.

Although you can cook sweet potatoes in a microwave, yet, Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes turn out well because they retain the necessary moisture and they do not turn too dry.

So, wait no more! Bookmark my recipe for the same and serve those fresh, Instant Pot made sweet potatoes for breakfast with butter, cinnamon or just as it is!

    Tips

Use the sweet potatoes which are similar in size for one lot. The cooking time may vary according to the size of the potatoes and we want even cooking.

Do not forget to set the valve to sealing position.

Make sure to keep the sweet potatoes on a trivet and not touching the water. We actually want to steam the potatoes so that they are fluffy and not mushy.

You can increase the number of potatoes to 4-5 but do not overcrowd the pot.

If your sweet potatoes are too large, cut them into half before adding in the Instant pot.

The Instant Pot with take 10-12 minutes to build up the steam and start the timer.

Set the timer to 18 minutes for small potatoes, 20 minutes for medium sized and 25 minutes for large sweet potatoes.

Although I didn’t poke the sweet potatoes before putting them in the IP, you can make a few pokes using a fork to  make sure they don’t burst open.

Why you should be cooking Sweet Potatoes in Instant Pot?

Cooking the sweet potatoes in Instant Pot keeps them perfectly moist as opposed to cooking in microwave or an oven where they tend to dry out and feel drab.

You just have to dump the potatoes in the IP and then you are hands free until they get done. I mean no flipping them or simmering the stove.

You can cook them in a big batch and use as required.

The skin of the sweet potatoes will slip of in a wink if you are using this method to cook them.

Cooking in Instant Pot do not heat up the kitchen. It’s a blessing for the warm summer days.

    How to serve

You can serve these sweet potatoes with a dollop of butter and a drizzle of honey.

You can even sprinkle some cinnamon powder if you like the flavour.

I like my sweet potatoes savory and I sprinkle some salt and freshly cracked pepper on top.

A little garnish of parsley is all you need to make it look happy.

Stuff the sweet potatoes with shredded chicken or pork and top with avocado, onion, cilantro and lemon juice.

You can serve them with cooked chickpeas and a drizzle of tahini sauce. Tahini Butter also go very well with these.

To make Tahini Butter, mix softened butter with tahini paste, soy sauce, salt and pepper and mix well.

A dollop of sour cream and some chopped chives also makes a great topping.

Use these cooked potatoes to make a mash.

You can use these as a filling for your parathas mixed with some onion, tomatoes, cilantro and spices.

Do I need to poke holes before cooking?

I never poke sweet potatoes (Or Potatoes, Squash for that matter) before putting them in the pressure cooker and they come out perfect. So I say, skip that extra step.

    How to make them mashed?

Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into small cubes. Add them in the Instant Pot along with 1 cup water and PRESSURE COOK on high for 10 minutes.

Let the steam release on it’s own.

Remove the lid and add butter, salt and pepper and mash the potatoes using a potato masher until smooth.
