Sprouts Salad is one of the most popular Indian Salads, that is popularly had as a snack or served along with everyday meals. It is a simple Indian Salad that is made with the combination of sprouts, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, green chilies, and pomegranate seeds.

All the ingredients are mixed and then flavored with lemon and an array of spices to make it spicy and tangy.

Simple and basic, this Indian Sprouts Salad can be prepared in a jiffy. The only thing that takes time is the sprouting of moong which can be done beforehand and kept.

Once you have the sprouts ready, it will take a mere 5 minutes to get this salad ready. You can also pack this salad in your Office snack box and enjoy it in between the meals or whenever the hunger strikes.

Sprouts are loaded with nutrients and therefore it is good to include them in your everyday meals. It is also great for weight loss, as it is rich in protein and will keep you filled for a long time.

    Ingredients

    Sprouts Salad Ingredients.

Moong Sprouts – Packed with Protein, Carbs, and Fibre, this ingredient is loaded with healthy goodness. And including them in salads is the best way to consume them.

Also, I have mentioned below how to make Moong Sprouts. If you do not have time on your hand, you can even buy moong sprouts from the vegetable stores.

Apart from sprouted moong beans, you can also sprout other legumes to add in this salad too.

Vegetables – Along with Moong Sprouts, I have added some vegetables that add to the nutrition of this salad. I have used onion, tomato, green chilies, and cucumber.

If you want, you can add in more vegetables such as Carrot, Avocado, Spinach, Kale, Radish, Corn, etc in this Bean Sprout Salad, to make it more filling and nutritious.

Pomegranate – This is optional, but it adds a nice sweet flavor and colour in this salad.

You can take out the pomegranate kernels beforehand and store them in the fridge in an airtight container, as they stay good for 3 to 4 days. If they are stored, they come in handy in such salad recipes.

Other Ingredients – Other than the above-mentioned ingredients, we will need lemon juice, salt, chaat masala powder, black salt, and roasted cumin powder. These ingredients add a tangy salty flavor to this salad, which makes it even yummier.

You can adjust the amount of chaat masala and lemon juice as per your taste.

    Step By Step Recipe

Add sprouts and all the other ingredients in bowl and mix well.

All the ingredients added in a bowl.

Refrigerate the Sprouts salad for 30 minutes. Serve immediately.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which sprouts can be used to make Sprouts Salad?

I have used Green Moong to make this salad, but you can sprout any other lentil, chickpeas/chana, buckwheat, alfalfa, ragi, amaranth, kamut, quinoa, or even oats to make this Salad.

Follow the same recipe, just substitute green moong sprouts with the sprouts of your choice.

You can also mix different sprouts and make a Mixed Sprout Salad.

Can we add Chicken to this Sprout Salad?

You can add boiled or grilled chicken in this salad too.

    How to make Sprouts?

To make sprouts, wash the green moong 3- 4 times and then soak it in clean water in a bowl.

Add water and cover it up to 1 inch above the moong beans. Cover the bowl and let it soak overnight.

Next day, drain the remaining water and place the moong beans in the same bowl. Cover it and keep it aside for a day or two.

You can check after a day, if not sprouted, keep it for one more day.

Just keep splashing some water every day over the beans so that they don’t dry up.

You will see that the moong beans will be sprouted beautifully. You can use it to make your sabzi, stir fry or salads.

    How to steam Sprouts?

Some people do not like to eat raw sprouts and in that case, they can steam them before adding them in the salad.

To steam, the sprouts, heat water in your steamer, place the sprouts in the plate and cover the steamer with its lid.

It will take 12 to 15 minutes to steam the sprouts.

    Variations

You can add in other finely chopped vegetables such as Carrot, Beetroot, Cabbage, Avocado, Spinach, Kale, Radish and Corn.

Cubed boiled potatoes or sweet potatoes works great in the salad.

If you like a little sweetness then add in some fresh citrusy fruits such as Orange, Pomegranate and Mango. You can also add dry fruits such as Almonds, Walnuts etc.

Add in some more nutrition such as Flax Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, etc. You can also add in some roasted peanuts for that extra crunch.

    Serving Suggestions

This Moong Sprouts Salad can be had any time of the day. It is a healthy snack that can be consumed whenever hunger strikes and can also be packed in your Snack Box.

You can also serve Sprouts Salad as a side dish with your everyday meals or as a snack with your evening tea.

You can also stuff leftover Sprouts Salad in your Kathi Rolls.

    Storage Suggestions

This Salad will stay good for about a day in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

I would not recommend you to freeze this salad, as it tastes good only when it is fresh.

Rather than freezing the Sprouts Salad, I would recommend you to freeze only the sprouts.

But the sprouts will not be as crunchy and fresh. You can add them in a freezer-safe bag and freeze for about 6 to 8 months.
