    About This Recipe

Strawberry Cobbler is a classic Southern dessert that is super easy to make from scratch and comes together in under 10 minutes of active working time using a few simple ingredients. This perfect dessert is a great way to end a meal.

It is comforting and refreshing, with a slightly tart flavor of the strawberries balancing the sweetness of the batter. The golden crispy crust and the gooey sweet fruit inside, what’s not to love!

My easy homemade strawberry cobbler recipe can be made using fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries, however, I love to make this great dessert in summers when it’s strawberry season and the best strawberries are available in the market.

Make this delicious dessert for a get-together or the party you are hosting or simply for every day after meal dessert.

To make this easy strawberry cobbler recipe, you don’t have to be an experienced baker. Even it’s your first time baking, you will be able to pull off this recipe like a charm. It’s an amazing recipe for the kids too.

    Ingredients

    For The Filling

    Strawberry cobbler filling ingredients.

To make the Strawberry Filling, you will need strawberries, lemon juice, cornstarch, and sugar.

Select fresh, red, and juicy strawberries for the best taste. Try to buy the strawberries from a farmer’s market instead of a grocery store, they are much butter in taste.

You can also go for frozen strawberries. Just thaw them to room temperature before using them in the recipe.

Use only freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor.

    For The Topping

    Strawberry cobbler topping ingredients.

To make the crust on top, you will need all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, baking powder, salt, unsalted butter, and milk.

How To Make Easy Homemade Strawberry Cobbler

    Preparation

Start by preparing 1 pound (500 g) of strawberries. Wash them with water to remove any dirt and then chop off the top part with the green leaves. Now chop the strawberries into small pieces. If using frozen strawberries, thaw them to room temperature. Then chop them.

Preheat the oven to 180 Degrees C (350 Degrees F).

Grease an 8×8 inch baking tray with butter.

    Make The Topping

    Tray greased with butter.

Stir together 1 cup all-purpose flour, ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, 4 tablespoon melted butter, and ¾ cup whole milk in a medium-size mixing bowl until smooth.

Topping ingredients added to a bowl.

    Set aside.

    Mixed well.

    Make The Cobbler

Add the chopped strawberries to the prepared baking tray.

Strawberries added to the baking tray.

Add ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch to the tray and mix well using a spoon.

Sugar, lime juice and cornstarch added to the tray.
    Mixed well.

Pour the topping over the strawberries and spread evenly using a spoon.

    Topping spread over strawberries.

    Bake The Cobbler

Keep the baking tray in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is lightly browned and crispy.

The ready cobbler will have the dough rising to the top to form a gorgeous crust and gooey strawberries popping through.

Remove the pan from the oven.

To serve, scoop out a large spoonful of warm cobbler and transfer it to a serving bowl. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and serve immediately.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How to make sugar free strawberry cobbler?

Make a sugar-free version by replacing granulated sugar with Splenda. You can also use healthier options like unprocessed brown sugar, coconut sugar, jaggery, etc in place of granulated sugar.

How to make a vegan strawberry cobbler?

To make a vegan strawberry cobbler, replace butter with coconut oil and milk with almond or coconut milk, and follow the rest of the recipe as it is.

    Pro Tips By Neha

Use fresh strawberries for the best result. If not, then you can opt for frozen ones.

You can also make a thicker crust on top by increasing the topping quantity. I sometimes double the quantity of the topping ingredients for a thicker crust.

Make it fresh, because it tastes great when warm, just out of the oven. Serve with some vanilla ice cream.

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled. So if you are making it for a large get-together, this one is for you. Use a larger baking tray in case you are scaling the recipe.

    Variations

You can make this cobbler with any of your favorite fruit, such as peaches, a mix of fresh berries, blueberries, raspberries, nectarine, apples, or cherries.

Make the topping using the Bisquick mix. Use Bisquick mix in place of all-purpose flour and reduce the amount of sugar from ½ cup to 1 tablespoon and butter from 4 tablespoon to 1 tbsp. Follow the rest of the recipe as-is.

You can also make the topping using cake mix. To make strawberry cobbler from a cake mix, you will need sliced butter instead of melted. Cut the cold butter into thin slices. Add chopped strawberries to an 8×8 inch baking pan. Add sugar and lemon juice. Mix well. Top the strawberries with the dry cake mix and keep the butter slices evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

    Storage Suggestions

It tastes best when made fresh, just out of the oven. If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the refrigerator.

Heat the leftovers in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the crust becomes crisp again and then serve. I don’t recommend freezing this dessert.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve it fresh with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. It can also be eaten as is without any ice cream.

When making the strawberry cobbler using cake mix… Do I add the dry cake mix on top of strawberries, or do I make the cake mix as the directions on the box say to make it, and then add it on top of strawberries?

      Hi,
I made this recipe and the filling became too watery! Any idea what went wrong? Otherwise, it tasted great 👌

Not sure what went wrong. It could be oven temperature. Next time, add some more cornflour.
