Darsaan (Chinese Honey Noodles) is a delicious dessert where noodles are fried until crisp and then coated in a honey sauce. These are served with vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

    About Darsaan

Darsaan (Chinese Honey Noodles) is a traditional Chinese dessert where noodles are fried until crispy and then tossed in a honey sesame sauce.

Traditionally, this dessert is made using wonton wrappers which are cut into thin strips but to make the process easier, I used plain Hakka noodles.

Serve Darsaan as a dessert after a Chinese-style meal along with vanilla ice cream for a yummy treat.

I have used Hakka noodles to make this dish, as they are easily available, but you can use any type of noodles.

You will need cornstarch (cornflour) to coat the noodles and vegetable oil to fry them.

For The Sauce – To make the sweet sauce, you will need granulated sugar, unsalted butter, water, honey, black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, blanched almonds, and walnuts.

To blanch the almonds, soak them in boiling hot water for 10 minutes and then peel their skin.

Serve these homey sesame noodles with scoops of vanilla ice cream.

    How To Make Darsaan

    Cook The Noodles

Heat 5 cups of water in a pan over high heat.

Once the water comes to a boil, add 75 g of Hakka noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until they are just done (Al Dente).

Do not overcook otherwise the noodles will become mushy.

Drain the water and spread the noodles on a kitchen towel in a thin layer.

    Fry The Noodles

Transfer the noodles to a large mixing bowl and toss them with 2 tablespoon cornstarch.

    Cornstarch added to the bowl.

Heat 3-4 cups of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.

Once the oil is hot, deep fry the noodles in 2-3 batches until they are crispy.

Drain the fried noodles on a plate lined with paper tissues.

Crush them slightly and set them aside.

    Roast The Almond And Walnuts

Dry roast 12-15 blanched almonds (halved) and 8-10 walnut (halved) over medium heat until they are lightly browned.

Remove on a plate and keep aside.

    Make The Honey Sauce

Heat 2 tablespoon unsalted butter in a pan over medium heat.

    Butter heating in a pan.

Once the butter is melted, add 5 tablespoon granulated sugar and 3 tablespoon water to the pan.

Sugar and water added to the pan.

Cook until the sugar caramelizes and becomes golden brown in color, stirring frequently.

Add 4 tablespoon honey and mix well.

    Honey added to the pan.

Add the crispy noodles, roasted nuts, 1 teaspoon white sesame seeds, and ½ teaspoon black sesame seeds to the pan and gently toss to coat the noodles with the sauce.

Noodles, sesame seeds and nuts added to the pan.

    Switch off the flame.

Transfer the noodles to the serving plates. Serve them hot with scoops of vanilla ice cream.

You can garnish with some white and black sesame seeds and drizzle some honey, chocolate sauce, or butternut sauce on top of the ice cream.

    Ready darsaan.

    Storage Suggestions

Darsaan tastes the best when served right off the pan, warm.

If you have leftovers, then store them in an airtight container for 4-5 days. You will not be able to heat them again so just serve them at room temperature with or without ice cream.
