If a few sauces are handy, life becomes very easy. I always make and store at least one sauce in my fridge. These sauces can then be used to make or top various dishes. I recently came across a recipe for pasta sauce made with sour cream. I had a tub of sour cream sitting in my fridge, so I thought I would give the recipe a try. It was approved by everyone at home.

About Sour Cream Pasta Sauce

This Pasta Sauce is the easiest and yummiest pasta sauce you can make on a busy day.

It is creamy, needs simple pantry ingredients, and comes together in under 15 minutes.

Once the sauce is ready, toss in some cooked pasta and sauteed veggies or protein, and you have a quick meal in no time.

Ingredients

Sour Cream – I like to use full-fat sour cream, but you can also use light or fat-free sour cream to reduce calories.

Butter – Adds a rich flavor to the sauce. You can use salted or unsalted butter.

Garlic – Use fresh garlic for the best taste.

Flour – It thickens and adds creaminess to the sauce.

Milk – Use whole milk for a rich, creamy sauce. You can also make it with low-fat or skim milk.

Seasonings – Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and nutmeg powder. Adjust it according to your choice.

You can also add your choice of seasoning, such as Cajun seasoning, mustard, red pepper flakes, or paprika, for added flavor.

Sour Cream Pasta Sauce FAQs

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream in pasta sauce?

You can use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream in pasta sauce. Greek yogurt has a similar tangy flavor and creamy consistency, making it a suitable substitute.

How to store sour cream pasta sauce?

This pasta sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat at low heat in a pan, or in small bursts in the microwave, until hot. Do not heat on high, as the sour cream may curdle.
I do not recommend freezing it as the sour cream may curdle or become grainy once the sauce is thawed.

Serving Suggestions

Fettuccine Alfredo: Toss the sauce with freshly cooked fettuccine, then top with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan.

Baked Potatoes: Spoon the sauce over a baked potato and sprinkle with bacon bits and chives.

Stuffed Shells: Fill cooked pasta shells with ricotta, spinach, and ground beef, then top with sour cream sauce.

Grilled Chicken: Grill chicken breasts and serve with a dollop of this sauce and a side of roasted vegetables.

Vegetable Pasta Salad: Toss cooked pasta with fresh vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers, then dress with pasta sauce.

Meatball Subs: Top a toasted sub roll with meatballs, marinara sauce, and a generous dollop of pasta sauce.

Seafood Linguine: Serve the sauce over linguine, with shrimp or scallops, and sprinkle with chopped parsley and lemon zest.

Quesadillas: Spread it on a flour tortilla and add shredded cheese, cooked chicken or beef, and vegetables. Fold in half and cook until crispy.
