This drink from Kerala is gaining popularity for its unique preparation method. It erupts like a volcano when a shot glass filled with a mint-leaves-and-green-chili mixture is dropped into a glass filled with club soda.
Here, “Fuljar” means “full jar,” referring to the large glass used to drink this soda. It is spicy, sweet, and tangy, and very refreshing, perfect for hot summer days. It is also popularly prepared during the month of Ramzan.
While preparing it, ensure you do so in an open area, as it fizzes a lot and some may even drip. So, if you don’t want to spoil your expensive furniture or linen, try this fuljar soda recipe in an open space.
This recipe is vegan and gluten-free. You can easily scale it up as needed.
Ingredients

- Green chilies – Choose the less spicy variety. You need them for the taste and not for too much spice.
- Sugar – Adjust the amount to your taste and preference.
- Lime juice – Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best taste.
- Others – You will also need ginger, mint leaves, salt, sabja seeds (Tukamaria seeds or basil seeds), and chilled club soda.
The recipe I have shared in this post is flavored with mint, ginger, and green chilies. You can make many variations of this drink by adding fruits such as kiwi, oranges, pomegranates, and watermelons.
How To Make Fuljar Soda
Step 1: Add the following ingredients to the small jar of a blender.
- 2 teaspoons chopped green chilies
- 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
- 15-20 mint leaves
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3 tablespoons granulated white sugar
- โ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons filtered water

Step 2: Blend until smooth, forming a puree.

Step 3: Transfer the puree between 4 shot glasses.

Step 4: Add 1 tablespoon soaked sabja seeds to each glass and stir well using a small spoon.

Step 5: Now, fill a tall serving glass with chilled club soda until it is ยพth full.

Step 6: Gently drop the shot glass into the glass with the soda.

Step 7: The drink will start to fizz like a volcano; drink it immediately. The shot glass will still be inside the glass when you start to drink. Once you are halfway, you can remove it and finish the drink.

Storage Suggestions
Make it fresh! As it has soda, do not store it; otherwise, the drink will not have the required fizz. You can make the mint, chili, and sugar mixture and refrigerate it for up to 2 days.

Ingredients

- 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
- 15-20 mint leaves
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3 tablespoons granulated white sugar
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sabja seeds (soaked in ¼ cup water)
- chilled club soda (as required)
Instructions
- Add green chilies, ginger, mint leaves, lime juice, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoon of filtered water to the small jar of a blender.
- Blend to make a smooth puree.
- Transfer the puree between 4 shot glasses.
- Add 1 tablespoon soaked sabja seeds to each glass and stir well using a small spoon.
- Now fill a tall serving glass with chilled club soda until it is ¾th full.
- Gently drop the shot glass into the glass with the soda.
- The drink will start to fizz like a volcano, so drink it immediately. The shot glass will still be inside the glass when you start to drink. Once you are halfway, you can remove it and finish the drink.
