About Raita Masala
Raita Masala Powder is a spice mix which is added to raitas to elevate their taste. I always have a bottle of this spice mix in pantry as we make raitas for lunch almost everyday.
Now, this spice powder is easily available in market but I like to make mine at home. The taste of the homemade masala is definitely better than the store bought one. By making it at home, you are also sure about what is going into it. It is also much economical to make it at home.
These days, there is a constant news about the adulteration of the spice mixes sold by various companies. To increase their profit margins, a lot of companies using sub par ingredients and processes to make their products.
This is one of the reasons I always try to make as many things as possible at home. It doesn’t take much time and with some pre planning, you can easily manage your pantry well.
So, head to your kitchen and make this raita masala now using a few simple ingredients. Add ½ teaspoon to any raita to elevate it’s taste.
Ingredients
You need six ingredients to make this spice mix – Cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chiies, black peppercorns, asafetida (hing) and black salt.
Skip adding asafetida to make it gluten-free.
How To Make Masala Powder For Raita
Dry roast ¼ cup cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon coriander seeds, 1 dry red chili and 1 teaspoon black peppercorns over medium heat until lightly browned. Stir frequently while roasting.
Remove the pan from heat and let the spices cool.
Add roasted ingredients to a grinder along with ¼ teaspoon asafetida and 2 tablespoon black salt.
Grind to make a fine powder. Store in an airtight container and use as desired.
Storage Suggestions
You can store it in an airtight container for up to 1 month in a cool and dry place. To increase it’s shelf life, refrigerate it for up to 3 months.
