About Apple Kachumber

Twist the classic Kachumber this summer and make this refreshing Apple Kachumber (Seb Kachumber). Chop the apples and mix them with onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other kachumber ingredients, and your fruity version of this Indian salad is ready in no time.

Apple Kachumber is easy to make, nutritious, and comes together in 10 minutes.

Adding sweet, juicy red apples gives this refreshing salad a slightly sweet taste with a nice bite. Serve it with your everyday meals or enjoy it as a mid-day snack.

Ingredients

Apples – I used red Fuji apples to make this recipe, but you can use any variety of apples that are easily available. Just make sure they are fresh, crisp, and free of bruises or black patches.

Onions, Tomatoes, and Cucumbers – Like the classic kachumber, this apple kachumber salad also has a mix of onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

You can also add raw green mangoes in summer to add a slightly tangy taste.

Others – You will also need green chilies, cilantro (fresh coriander leaves), pomegranate seeds, salt, pepper, and freshly squeezed lime juice.

Adjust the green chilies depending on your taste and preference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I peel the apples or not to make seb kachumber?

It is optional. I like the crunch skin gives to the salad, so I keep the skin on. But feel free to peel the apples.

How to clean apples and other fresh produce?

Fresh fruits and vegetables could have harmful residue on the skin, and it is very important to get rid of them before consuming them.

I like to soak my fresh produce in water mixed with veggie wash. However, you can also use 1 tablespoon baking soda and ¼ cup white vinegar instead of a veggie wash to soak the fresh fruits and veggies.

Fill a large tub with water. Add a cup of veggie wash or baking soda and vinegar to it. Soak the fresh produce in the mixture for 30 minutes. Then rinse well and use.

Storage Suggestions

I do not recommend storing Seb Kachumber, as the apples tend to get black and lose their crispness if stored for longer. Serve it immediately after you make it.

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge and finish them within a day. Mix the salad properly using a spoon before consuming it.
