About Cold Coffee

Cold Coffee (Cold Coffee Shake, Cold Coffee Milkshake) is a creamy cold beverage made with mainly five ingredients: instant coffee powder, cold milk, milk powder, vanilla ice cream, and sugar.

It is a very popular beverage on almost all cafes’ menus in India and is a perfect drink to sip on hot summer days.

This cafe-style drink is creamy, rich, and sweet, with a frothy foam layer on top, making it super addictive.

I have been making this cafe-style cold coffee recipe for a long time, and trust me, it’s a notch better than most cafes you visit.

It comes together in just 5 minutes using a few simple ingredients, and it is also more economical to make at home.

This recipe is the basic version, but you can use it to make new flavors. Think chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, cinnamon, etc.

This coffee shop-style coffee recipe is vegetarian and gluten-free; you can easily make it vegan. You can double or triple the recipe as per your requirements.

Ingredients

Cafe style cold coffee ingredients

Coffee – I like to make frothy coffee using instant coffee powder, which is also how it is made in cafes. Instant coffee powder is also readily available, easy to use, and tastes delicious.

Having said that, you can use any coffee you like to make it – espresso shots, cold brew coffee, drip coffee, and filter coffee decoction work great. Use ยผ cup of these in place of coffee powder.

Milk – For the creamiest version of coffee, use whole milk (full-fat milk). You can also use low-fat milk or skim milk, but the texture won’t be as creamy.

For a vegan version, replace dairy milk with non-dairy options such as almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or any other vegan milk you prefer.

Sugar – I like to use granulated white sugar to sweeten my coffee. You can increase or decrease the quantity as per your liking.

You can replace white sugar with brown sugar, coconut sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, or sugar-free substitutes like stevia or monk fruit.

Milk Powder – Adding milk powder (dairy whitener) is optional, but it will add a creamy texture to your coffee. If you are making a vegan version, you can skip adding it.

Ice Cream – This homemade cold coffee recipe is super rich from the addition of vanilla ice cream. You can replace it with chocolate ice cream if you like chocolaty coffee.

Ice Cubes – Throw in a few ice cubes while blending. It is an essential step to get frothy coffee.

Chocolate Syrup – Use it to garnish the serving glasses, like they do in cafes.

Topping Suggestions

You can serve this coffee drink as it is with a frothy top or top it with some interesting and yummy ingredients such as ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or coffee-flavored), caramel syrup, chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, chocolate wafers, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.

Pro Tips By Neha

If you want the coffee to be stronger, increase the quantity of instant coffee powder; conversely, decrease it if you prefer a weaker brew.

Make it fresh and serve. The frothy top tends to dissipate if left for longer.

You can add some chocolate syrup or cocoa powder to make it a little more chocolaty. You can add some hot chocolate powder, but cook it in water or milk as per the package instructions before adding it to the recipe.

You can freeze some brewed coffee in ice cube trays and use the coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice cubes to make stronger coffee.

Storage Suggestions

This coffee tastes best when served immediately after blending. The foam tends to settle down if kept for a longer time.

However, if you have leftover coffee, store it in an airtight container or a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Just shake it vigorously just before serving to make some new foam.

Quick and delicious. There are so many ways to โ€œdress upโ€ the basic recipe if you so desire, but itโ€™s great just as is.
