We had a passion fruit vine in our Pune house, and twice a year, it used to get laden with lots and lots of passion fruits. One of the seasons was just before Diwali. So, for every Diwali party at my house, I made homemade passion fruit juice using fresh fruits, and everyone loved it.

People who were teetotalers drank it just like that, and the ones who preferred some alcohol in their drinks added shots of vodka, white rum, etc., to it to make a nice cocktail.

Passion fruits are also available in the market these days. So if you get a hand on them, then learn how to make refreshing Passion Fruit Juice recipe at home in 5 minutes.

About Passion Fruit Juice

Passion Fruit Juice is a refreshing drink made using fresh passion fruit pulp. It is loaded with tropical flavors and is refreshing to sip on hot summer days.

To make this tropical juice, the fruit pulp is blended with sugar and cold water. The juice is strained through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the seeds.

Know that the passion fruit seeds are edible, but they won’t feel great while sipping the juice, and hence, I prefer straining the liquid.

This passion fruit drink is vegan, needs basic pantry ingredients, and can be customized to your taste. If the fruits are too tart, add more sugar; if they are sweet, reduce the sugar. You can add more or less water to thin down the juice.

Homemade juice is also free of artificial stabilizers, synthetic vitamins, and chemical colors.

Ingredients

Passion fruit juice ingredients.

Passion Fruit is a tropical fruit. It comes in two varieties – One with purple skin and one with yellow skin. The pulp can be yellow or white in color. You can use purple passion fruits or yellow passion fruits to make the juice.

Both the varieties of this fruit have a tough outer skin. Inside the skin, there is a soft jelly-like pulp with crunchy black seeds. The pulp is sweet and tart in flavor.

You can eat passion fruit on its own or use the pulp to make juice, smoothies, cocktails, and desserts.

When buying the fruits, you must smell them. They must smell fruity and sweet. Also choose the fruits that are heavy for their size. This means they will have more pulp in them.

One fruit should yield around 2-3 tablespoons of pulp. You will need 5-6 fruits to make juice for 2-3 people.

You can also add a few mint leaves and black salt to this juice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to take out the pulp of passion fruit?

Start by cutting the passionfruit in half using a sharp, serrated knife. Now using a spoon, scoop out the pulp from each half of the fruit. Scrape the inside of the fruit shell with the spoon to remove any remaining pulp.
Discard the shells and use the pulp as desired.
Note that passionfruit pulp can stain clothing and countertops, so it’s a good idea to work over a cutting board or bowl and to wear an apron or old clothes.

Can I use frozen passion fruit puree to make the juice?

Yes, you can use frozen puree to make juice. Frozen puree can be a convenient alternative to fresh passion fruit if unavailable or not in season. Ensure to use unsweetened frozen puree, which is free of preservatives and other ingredients.

What else can be added to passionfruit juice?

You can make a tropical fruit blend by mixing passion fruit juice with other fruit juices like orange juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, or mango juice.

For a nice herby taste, try adding a few sprigs of mint or basil leaves while blending. Spices like cinnamon or ginger also pair very well with this juice.

You can also turn passionfruit juice into a cocktail by adding a splash of white rum, vodka, or tequila to it.

Storage Suggestions

I like to serve this juice immediately after making it as it tastes the best when made fresh. But if you have some leftover juice, then store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Shake it well before serving it, as the pulp might get settled at the bottom of the container.

You can also freeze the leftover juice. It will last for up to 6 months. Just thaw and serve. I like to freeze it in small portions so that I can thaw just the required amount.

You can also freeze the pulp in ice cube trays and make fresh juice whenever you want to serve it.
